r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #01
Thailand has just ended their first full month with legalized cannabis.
While legalization got off to a chaotic start, things are starting to settle down a bit.
New sellers/shops are opening all the time and while the average price of high quality strains remains stubbornly high compared to other markets, the rush of nearly a million people to grow their own cannabis as well as commercial grows ramping up to meet demand should begin putting pricing pressure on marijuana sellers in the coming months and hopefully we'll see some price easing.
Thankfully, the first full month of legalization ended without too many negative stories in the media. Although the first week or two saw some poorly researched scare stories claiming a man died from heart failure after smoking ganja or that a man threatened to cut off his own penis after smoking weed, the pace of the articles seems to have slowed after "journalists" realized there wasn't much there too report.
And though the government has promised a new round of regulations to put some limits on cannabis use, the proposals leaking out from the government seem pretty tame and, shockingly, are common sense.
Most cannabis users agree that marijuana shouldn't be sold to minor and that restaurants shouldn't be slipping cannabis into dishes without informing the customer. And most cannabis users see it fair that cannabis shouldn't be sold on school grounds or near schools.
If the coming regulations stay this tepid, except for the prohibition of extracts, Thailand may end up having some of the most liberal marijuana laws in the world.
