r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #12
Sawadee Everyone,
Last week we asked what is most important to you when you're buying cannabis and 39% of you said that you were looking for a specific type of high. Price was the most important factor for 21.4% and THC content for 20.3%. Taste and CBD, terpine profiles were most important to 10.7% and 8.6% respectively.
These are interesting results as many industry pundits in the US and Canada have repeatedly said that THC content and Price are the two main factors for consumers when purchasing cannabis.
While 39% said the specific type of high, for many that is simply a distinction between a more energetic/creative high from Sativa and a more relaxing/couch-lock high from Indica strains (or a hybrid).
That would seem to indicate that once someone has decided on Indica or Sativa, it's all about price and THC content for most people (80.7%).
This doesn't bode well for boutique dispensaries or high priced exotic strains as less than 20% of consumers rate those as their most important buying factors.
I was in Bangkok last week and I stopped by one dispensary (that shall remain nameless) where the lowest priced bud was 1,950 baht a gram.
Not surprisingly, in the four days I was staying at a hotel near this dispensary, I saw exactly zero customers in the shop whenever I passed by.
The high end of the market tends to be a very niche market, not just for cannabis.
Wine under $15 a bottle accounts for 67.3% of all wine sales. Wine costing between $15 and $25 accounts for another 31.2% of sales. And high end wine, priced above $25 a bottle is only 1.5% of the market.
I think wine is a good comparison because the vast majority of consumers of both cannabis and wine don't have enough of a sophisticated palette to tell the difference between good product and high end product.
I don't say that to be a snob as I count myself as one of those people that can't tell the difference.
It takes a great deal of training and-or experimentation to develop your smell and taste senses to appreciate the complexities of a good wine or a nice bud.
Unfortunately, this is likely to be a lesson that some boutique dispensaries in Thailand learn the hard way, just as the boutique dispensaries in the US discovered.
Cheers,

Review: STORZ & BICKEL Mighty+ — www.reddit.com
I was up in Chiang Rai visiting a friend and one evening we had some people over the house and one of them brought some weed he had grown and a Mighty+ vaporizer.
I have a Flowermate v5 Nano and have been happy with it but as soon as I hit the Mighty+, it was a game changer.
With the Flowermate I was used to a very high resistance draw when inhaling.
The Mighty+ was smooth and effortless. I actually had to be a bit mindful about not taking too big of a hit.
The cooling chamber was also a black and white comparison.
Because you have to suck so hard and so long on the Flowermate to get a decent hit, the glass mouthpiece gets very hot by the end of a session.
We passed around the Mighty+ between several of us and it never even felt warm.
The Flowermate would have needed a cool down period or people would have burnt lips.
I’m not exaggerating that. My lips have felt sensitive and a little puffy after a longer Flowermate session and I generally can’t unscrew the mouthpiece immediately after a session with my bare fingers because it’s too hot.
I did feel like the Flowermate had better flavors than the Mighty+. I am guessing this is due to the fact that it has better airflow which results in less dense vapor coming off of it.
That said, the Mighty+ produced good clouds.
Though I can’t really make a good call on cloud quality because I was taking smaller hits (almost like sipping a straw) rather than drawing on the Flowermate for 10 or 15 seconds due to the resistance.
The Mighty+ doesn’t have removable batteries like the Flowermate but it has 2 batteries vs the one in the Flowermate so that’s probably a neutral.
The Mighty+ is also substantially larger than the Flowermate. I can palm the Flowermate but the Mighty+ is only slightly shorter than an iPhone Pro Max and much girthier.
You could probably carry a Mighty+ in your pants pocket but I don’t think anyone would want to. Imagine carrying 3 or 4 iPhone Pro Max models in your pocket.
The Mighty+ has a plastic body which makes it surprisingly light for its size.
The Flowermate is compact and dense and feels heavier than it’s size would indicate.
And, of course, there’s a price difference. I forget the price in baht but the Flowermate runs about $130 or $140 USD and the Mighty+ is advertised online (on sites that ship in Thailand) for 18,000 baht (about $500 USD) and $400 on US or European sites.
Overall, if I had both, the Flowermate would be my choice for slipping in my pocket to go out for the evening and the Mighty+ would be my home use go to.
Personally, I could justify the cost on the Mighty+. It’s simply that much better, IMHO.
If that was out of my price range, I’m 50-50 on the Crafty+, the single battery smaller version of the Mighty+.
It’s about $100 cheaper than the Mighty+ but has many of the same draw characteristics (he brought one of those too so I tried both).
The only thing that gives me some pause about the Crafty+ is that it doesn’t have temperature controls on the device and you have to use an app or their website.
I’m sure it’s fine but the extra $100 for on device controls and a second battery is justified in my mind.
