r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #5
This week we crossed the 2000 member mark for the sub. The growth has been amazing and hopefully this is just the beginning.
The results are in and it looks like people prefer smoking weed over other forms of ingestion. 50% of people said they prefer smoking. 20% prefer edibles, 17% prefer dry herb vaping, 11% prefer vaping liquids/oils, and only two people preferred tinctures.
Unfortunately, this week's poll ended early because I messed up setting the end date. So, if you don't visit the sub much, you probably already missed it.
The poll was which do you prefer, an Indica, a Sativa, or a nice Hybrid.
28% said they'll smoke whatever is available with Sativa taking 22% of the vote and Indica taking 17% of the vote. I guess that's good news for me because I prefer an Indica. :-)
Interestingly, if the Sativa and Sativa Dominant Hybrid options are combined, and the Indica and Indica Dominant Hybrid are combined, things got a lot closer with Indica/Indica Hybrid taking 35.2% of the vote and Sativa/Sativa Hybrid coming in at 36.5%.
We should probably read it as good news that media attention is becoming less focused on cannabis at the moment. It seems to be becoming more accepted that legalization is a done deal and there are less headlines to grab by coming out against it.
That said there was still some minor fearmongering this week with Thailand's top psychiatrist expressing concerns about mental health and some Thai researchers waking up and realizing that driving while high could be problematic.
In both cases, it does seem rather odd that the critiques are concerned about hypothetical problems when both mental health access and road fatalities are problems that have been around for several decades which nobody seems to care much about.
Despite all of the hand wringing, I did find the following video below about Thai attitudes on cannabis legalization educational.
That’s it for this week.

2000 Members of the Sub — www.reddit.com
According to the side panel, this sub was created April 12, 2020. I asked the mods over at r/Thailand if they objected to a new sub focused on cannabis since most discussions of cannabis in r/Thailand either were dismissive or portrayed cannabis users like drug addicts.
They gave their blessing and a new sub was born.
The ramp up was pretty slow. Most news about cannabis in Thailand was very negative so there wasn't even that much useful content to post about.
But we finally broke double-digits in Nov 2020 and hit 200 subs in June 2021.
We started June 2022 with 488 sub members and ended the month with 1299. And since July 2022, we've added another 700+ members.
What a difference a year makes. LOL.
It's really been amazing and I've had the pleasure of chatting with many of you either in DMs or via email or other platforms which has made this both an educational and rewarding experience.
It's amazing the diverse areas of expertise and experience people have with cannabis. Everything from commercial growers to people that have been very involved in medical cannabis therapies and everything in between.
So, really, thank you to everyone. In one way or another, you've all helped grow this sub and grow the knowledge base about cannabis in Thailand.
That being said, I think we're just at the start. Hopefully this sub will keep growing and promoting the responsible use of cannabis in Thailand.
Unfortunately, I've been somewhat overwhelmed the last couple of months with keeping up on everything that's been going on, keeping the wiki updated with dispensaries, etc, so I currently don't have anything like a roadmap for going forward but I would love to hear what you guys want. Maybe we can turn some of those wants into realities.
For instance, someone DM'd me yesterday about hosting events, even a r/CannabisThailand version of something like the Cannabis Cup.
That's a great idea and if we can get the right people helping, it's doable.
Feel free to post your ideas here or ping me in private.
Again, thanks to everyone!

Thais React To Cannabis Legalization | Street Interview — www.reddit.com
While we often hear from people strongly in favor or opposed to cannabis legalization in Thailand, the street interviews are interesting because I feel it shows that there’s a general support for it, though with some founded and unfounded concerns mixed in.

Can someone ELI5 the new law for me? — www.reddit.com
I am a cannabis grower from europe. I dont want to be a criminal no more so i am thinking about moving to thailand. Is it possible to grow cannabis there as a foreigner? I paid a lawyer but he told me everything over 0.2% THC is illegal and the shops are also buying illegally. I am so confused and just found this subreddit so i thought i'd ask. I hope someone can help me. Y'all have a great day over there!
Greetings from europe!

Head psychiatrist warns of pot use, calls for govt action — www.reddit.com
It would be nice if these supposed members of the scientific community could cite some actual research when they make these shock statements about cannabis.
While Thailand has overall excellent healthcare, mental health is often an area that is entirely neglected.
During the pandemic there were reports of people calling suicide prevention numbers and not being able to get through.
Maybe the top psychiatrist in the country should be more concerned about saving people’s lives rather than trying to grab headlines.
In 2020 Thailand ranked #1 in ASEAN in terms of suicides.
Really, weed should be the least of his worries.

What’s your experience with smoking in hotels? — www.reddit.com
I will be traveling to Thailand for 1 month in September, mainly will be staying in Bangkok. Will be getting decently sized hotel or serviced apartment type hotel with a balcony.
I looked into Airbnb but people seem to suggest to avoid them and a lot of buildings seem to be smoke free.
I normally like to stay inside and chill when I smoke as I tend to get paranoid outside (especially first day after not smoking for long, and it’s been really long).
Does anyone have experience lighting up recently in hotels on balcony? Did anyone complain?
I’m thinking on getting Dry herb vaporizer once there as I read it minimizes the smell a lot but never tried it myself. Would it be worth getting and does it really work to reduce the smell?
Will appreciate any suggestions and hearing your experiences. I just want to have a piece of mind and not worry someone knocking on my door when high!

Limit and law on Carrying / Traveling with cannabis? — www.reddit.com
Is it legal for anyone to roll around with cannabis? Do you need a medical card? Where do you get one? Or can anyone roll around with pounds like it’s nothing? Thanks and sorry if this was already posted. I haven’t been able to find any context. All I’ve heard is that you can get charged 200k baht without card? From an unreliable source. Please help 🙏🏼
