Sawadee Everyone,
Roll out the red carpet and pop the popcorn, folks! If you're into drama, last week was better than the season finale of your favorite soap opera.
So here's the tea: Parliament decided to hold off on the second vote for PM, giving it a "let's think about it" pause, thanks to MFP’s objection which is being heard by the Constitutional Court. But between you and me, even if Pita had another go, it seems like he’d strike out again. The MFP's wooing game isn't exactly on point, as they've failed to charm enough senators to vote for Pita.
The general public seems to be swiping left on Move Forward. A sizzling poll revealed that 43% think MFP's stubbornness is the reason they’re stuck in political limbo. Yikes!
But wait, there's more! Pheu Thai has been all over the media, playing a drumbeat that basically translates to, "Nobody wants to date MFP if they don't change their stance on Section 112" And frankly, senators and most of the larger political parties seem to share the sentiment. Drama alert! This is pretty much PT sending candy hearts to MFP with messages like "Breakup Imminent."
News channels are already talking about MFP's political dreams with a nostalgic "remember when?" vibe.
But here's where the plot thickens: Hong Kong, famous for dim sum and now, a sudden hotspot for Thai politicos. As whispers flew about Thaksin's homecoming, a parade of Thai big shots apparently jetted off to have tea (or was it secrets?) with him.
Our old headline-grabber, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit (remember him from the Future Forward Party saga?) was rumored to be on the guest list. But why? Perhaps Thaksin wanted someone with a bit of a progressive glow to seal a deal, or maybe he just wanted to slide into MFP's DMs via Thanathorn. Our man Thanathorn, though, is playing coy, not even dropping hints about a Hong Kong visit.
In the middle of all this whirlwind, General Prawit pulled a magic trick – vanishing as head of PPRP only to reappear hours later as its unanimously elected new leader. Word on the street was that this stunt might have some Thaksin connections, but looks like it was just PPRP's version of spring cleaning as several deputy ministers were replaced during the shuffle.
Oh, and just when you thought the drama couldn't get spicier, Chuwit, our soapy massage mogul, decided he needed some spotlight. He claimed Thaksin wouldn't return, only for Thaksin's daughter to snap back with a "talk to the hand" because that's nonsense.
Where does that leave us? Still puzzled about the Hong Kong rendezvous and what went down. In TV land, that's what they call a cliffhanger. So stay tuned for the next episode of "Political Plots and Cliffhangers!" 🍿🎥🎬
Cheers,
