Sawadee Everyone,This week was sort of two steps forward, one step back as the Democrats and Pheu Thai teamed up to send the pending cannabis bill back to the drawing board. One Democrat even demanding that the Ministry of Public Health re-criminalize cannabis until a new bill is passed. Given that the Minister of Public Health is the same person who campaigned on legalizing cannabis, that is highly (no pun intended) unlikely to happen. The move also drew backlash from cannabis activists. Arun Avery from Highland called it "Idiotic" and pointed out that many of the children and relatives of the ministers that pressured for the bill to be withdrawn are themselves involved in the cannabis industry. Soranut Masayavanich, from Sukhumweed, called the move "selfish."To a degree it's ironic that the Democrats and Pheu Thai ministers that said that the bill didn't do enough to address recreational use, have ensured that the status quo, essentially no laws, will remain in effect until a new bill can be presented. Minister of Public Health, Antuin said that there may not be a new law until March of 2023.
