r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #20
Sawadee Everyone,
Sorry but this week is a short intro. I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week.
I'll be back next week with my usual verbosity.
Cheers,

The Week in Review
I started a thread about my grow a few weeks ago, and a couple of people were asking about licences. My wife spoke with an official today, and here's what we found out.
There are two types of licence: One for growing, and the other for selling.
Today we got an official licence to grow after my (Thai) wife went to the local office in person. This is not the same thing as registering to grow at home on the app (whatever it's called).
It was all processed there and then and we have the certificate already. I don't know ALL the details of what's needed, but the process was helped with a small 'donation'. I suspect it would be somewhat harder without said donation, and much of the process appears to be down to the official's discretion.
One of the best things about this licence is that IT ALLOWS US TO SELL TO DISPENSARIES. We just can't sell directly to the consumer.
The thing is that dispensaries must show where they get their flowers from, and they must buy from a grower with the appropriate licence. (A grower that simply registered on the app doesn't cut it). If the dispensary can't show they bought from a licensed source, they would need to get 'creative' with their books which many would prefer to avoid if possible. The licence we obtained today lets dispensaries buy from us legally and honestly without having to fiddle anything.
As for the other licence, it's doable without too much red tape or hurdles to jump as far as I can tell. EXCEPT: You need to have a PHYSICAL, brick-and-mortar dispensary ready to open, along with a registered business etc. That licence would then allow us to sell directly to the consumer, (but not online).
So, there's my experience. Yours might be different, although crossing the official's palm with silver might help the process (TiT). Having a competent Thai person who knows how to speak with officials will no doubt be a huge help. I didn't go with my wife as having a farang present may well have thrown a spanner in the works.
The recent change in law not allowing us to sell online is a bit of a blow, especially considering I am an online marketer and I was looking forward to my new project. But at least we can still grow and sell to dispensaries with peace of mind (and we have buyers lined up). There are probably still marketing angles to pursue anyway.
Oh, and here's a few images of my crop, it's ready to harvest in 2-3 weeks.

Edit after a further chat with my wife: One of the requirements was that there needs to be a group of 10 signatories for the licence. It's supposed to be a communal thing, or something like that. Apparently, a lot of people can't meet the red tape requirements or give up because there's so much to do.
