r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #21
Sawadee Everyone,
This was the week that the new cannabis rules dropped.
Cannabis dispensaries will not longer be permitted to allow smoking on premises unless a licensed doctor of some sort is on site.
Online sales (and vending machine sales) and any type of advertising is also now prohibited.
Everything else was already included in the last revision of rules which made selling to people under 20 and to pregnant women illegal.
What will this mean?
Probably not much.
Online dispensaries probably aren't going away. Dispensaries that allow smoking are, according to members of the sub, still allowing smoking.
If this goes anything like how Thailand normally handles things, at some point they'll make a high profile bust of an online seller. A bunch of dispensaries already not making a lot of money will close up shop. Larger online dispensaries will go quiet for a bit while they wait for the smoke to clear (no pun intended) and then resurface.
Storefront dispensaries will either hire a doctor to hang out all day or make arrangements with local authorities to permit on-site smoking. Some areas will have the law strictly enforced and other areas will have lax enforcement.
While it probably won't be too impactful, it's unfortunate that they've banned online sales. While in some areas there's a dispensary on every corner, in other parts of the country there are absolutely no dispensaries and people have been ordering online.
Sometimes you just want to stick your nose into a Mason jar and smell the fresh buds.
In other news, r/CannabisThailand hit the 4,000 member milestone and keeps growing. Thank you for all of the people who have joined the community and contributed posts, comments, ideas, and feedback.
Until next week . . .
Cheers,
u/CannabisThailandMod

Visiting dispensary to see how the new law has effected them. — www.reddit.com
So today, I took out the time to head to some of the bigger cities to check out how the new non smoking on property has changed the way dispensaries work.
All the dispensaries which is a good 20 or so of them all allowed smoking, within the vicinity or on property. I asked about it and they were all like, technically yes, that's correct, no smoking, but this is Thailand... So is it only just because the law is new they haven't enforced it? Or because it's one of those technical things, where they'll let slide if no one actively complains/paying the right people?
Have you guys visited any dispensaries? How were they where you are? Notice any differences?

Unsolicited DMs — www.reddit.com
Over the last few months I've heard about several incidents where members of this sub have been sending unsolicited DMs to other members in regards to offering weed for sale.
One person, who has since been banned for a whole laundry list of reasons, admitted openly that they were spamming people via DM.
I've also received messages from members who have responded to unsolicited DMs and then not been happy with their transaction and want me to do something about it.
I want to make it clear that unsolicited DMs with offers to sell weed are considered the same as spam and the applicable rules apply (i.e. you'll be banned from the sub permanently).
I also want to be clear that people should report unsolicited DMs so the spammer can be dealt with which is why I will not be getting involved in these disputes after that advice has been ignored.
The reason for the anti-spam rules for the sub is to avoid situations like this.
If you respond to an unsolicited DM and later aren't happy with your purchase, I'm the mod for the subreddit, not Judge Judy. I do not want to get involved with your dispute. It's on you to deal with.
Since one person recently said that they were thinking of outing someone they thought was selling inferior quality weed, more power to you, but, do be aware of Thailand's defamation laws.
If you publicly post information, true or not, and the intent is to defame the other person, that is a criminal offense in Thailand and if the person presses charges you can be arrested. It's happened to people who have left bad hotel reviews (look it up).
Under Thai law, the truth is not a recognized legal defense. You can have video, photos, expert witnesses, etc but if your intent is to defame someone by posting information that is not already in the public domain, that qualifies as defamation under Thai law.
That's not me trying to keep anybody quiet. I'm just putting that out there since many people forget that they are in Thailand and different rules/laws apply here.
Just remember, anyone selling good quality product for a low price would be too busy fulfilling orders to go hunting around this sub looking for people to DM.
