Sawadee Everyone,
The two big stories that dominated the week were the cannabis bill going nowhere again (as well as growing backlash that certain parties are holding up a vote on the bill) and the Thai government published a list of ten useful facts for tourists coming to Thailand in regards to cannabis.
The BJT Party tried to get through a reading of the cannabis bill this week but were thwarted when there wasn’t a quorum of legislators to vote. Whether this was intentional or not is unknown but the Bangkok Post published an opinion article calling out both sides for being unwilling to compromise.
It is impossible to bring back the clock, treat cannabis as a narcotic once more, and put those who use and grow it in jail. Such a perspective is out of sync with reality. Cannabis is a known and popular treatment for a number of common ailments.
The Ministry of Public Health has put together a brochure that will be available at tourism offices which lists ten things tourists should know about Thailand’s marijuana laws.
Except, the list makes no sense for foreigners unless they intend on growing weed (Item #2) while here on holiday or if they want to engage in some scientific research (Item #3) while here.
It looks like what they did was just summarize Thailand’s cannabis laws which is useful but some of the laws just make no sense for tourists.
But, better something than nothing, right?
Cheers,
u/CannabisThailandMod
