Crossing 5,000 Members and Best of the Best Nominations
Sawadee Everyone,
The r/CannabisThailand just hit over 5,000 members this week. That makes the sub the 8th largest Thailand related subreddit.
As you can see from the chart below, growth was really slow from 2020 until June 2022 but it’s taken off like a rocket ship since then.
The other big thing happening in the sub this week is we’re taking nominations for the best cannabis dispensaries and suppliers.
Please take a moment to share your nominations so we can create a resource for tourists and newbies to help guide them to the best places in Thailand.
Best of the Best Koh Samui / Koh Pha-ngan - Nominations Please
Best of the Best Glassware and Smoking Accessories - Nominations Please
Best of the Best Redditor Owned or Operated Dispensary - Nominations Please
In the world of cannabis related news this week, we had two main stories.
The first is starting soon, as in whenever it’s published in the Royal Gazette it goes into effect immediately, Thai nationals wishing to purchase cannabis at a dispensary will be required to show an ID card and the sale will be entered into a government tracking system.
What will the government do with the tracking system? Nobody knows at this point.
As of right now, there’s no clear indication that this new rule applies to foreigners. Though, this is similar to how Thailand has rolled out things like vaccine registrations where the reservation system was only available to people with a Thai ID card and then later the system was expanded to foreigners and passports.
Again, we don’t know if that’s coming but it’s a datapoint to keep in mind.
In retail news, it looks like the well-known brand Cookies will finally be opening their shop on 1/21. The company’s CEO, Berner, has said he will be in Thailand to greet customers on opening day.
Cookies is located at 51/2 Ruam Rudi 3 Alley, Lumphini, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330 [map]. It looks to be an easy walk from the BTS Phloen Chit station.
Cheers,
