r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #36
Sawadee Everyone,
Yesterday was a travel day for me so my apologies for getting this one out a little late this week but, technically, it’s still Sunday in some parts of the world so maybe I’m not late? :-)
Last week’s newsletter discussed the Chuvit tantrum about weed and it seems like this week saw some fall out for Chuvit.
Many in the media have been pointing out the hypocrisy of having a dispensary, rumored to be run by Chuvit’s son, in the lobby of his hotel while saying that he’s against cannabis.
A dean at Rangsit University has challenged Chuvit to a debate about his new views on cannabis but nothing came of that when Chuvit refused to respond and some journalists have called out Chuvit for staging a publicity stunt that has nothing to do with cannabis and is about settling old political scores.
Perhaps that story will quiet down now.
As I mentioning in my opening, I was traveling recently. I spent a week up in Bangkok and while I was blown away at the proliferation of cannabis shops, the one thing I didn’t notice much of was the smell of people smoking weed.
If you read Stickman or any sort of discussion group about Thailand that isn’t cannabis oriented, you are likely to see people complaining about the stench of cannabis smoke absolutely everywhere in Bangkok.
I smelled weed being smoked on three occasions during my weeklong stay in the capital.
The first was a guy near Sukhumvit Soi 5 or 7 (I forget) who was hitting a bowl rather discreetly about 20 meters from Sukhumvit.
Another time was when I was at The Penalty Spot, a small sports bar/restaurant near Sukhumvit Soi 22. While seated inside, I smelled a brief hint of a smell which was probably someone in the smoking area outside of the bar taking a hit.
And the third time was me smoking weed. :-)
That was it. I didn’t spend much time in the Cowboy or Nana areas where a lot of complaints come from but I did walk by those areas and I didn’t smell anything out of the ordinary.
What I did smell though was where someone had vomited on the sidewalk about a block from my hotel, the undeniable oder of urine in some places, cigar smoke in at least two places I visited, and several times I passed by areas that smelled like there was an open sewer line somewhere.
It just makes me wonder where all of these bloodhound nosed people are that write so passionately about being overwhelmed by the smell of cannabis everywhere in Bangkok and why that particular smell is so offensive when half of Bangkok smells like hot garbage at times.
Cheers,
u/CannabisThailandMod
