Sawadee Everyone,
This week saw one of the unfortunate consequences of Reefer Madness attitudes towards cannabis as Singaporean, Tangaraju Suppiah, 46 was hanged by the Singapore government for conspiracy to traffic 1kg of cannabis.
Despite pleas from everyone from the UN Human Rights Office to millionaire businessman Richard Branson, the Singapore government carried out the latest state-level murder over . . . making plans to import a plant.
It seems hard to believe that in 2023 people are still being executed for cannabis, a drug that has had zero recorded overdose deaths over the course of all human history.
Meanwhile a completely legal drug, alcohol, contributes to 3 million unnecessary deaths every year but is celebrated in most parts of the world.
Don’t get me wrong, if people want to enjoy a cold brew, they should be able to.
I’m pointing out the hypocrisy.
One drug does very little societal harm and is vilified, while the other kills 3 million people a year and destroys countless lives.
As famous comedian Bill Murray once said, “I find it quite ironic that the most dangerous thing about weed is getting caught with it.”
Cheers,
