r/CannabisThailand Newsletter - Issue #54
Sawadee Everyone,
Buckle up folks, because this week's Thai politics has served up a carnival ride of twists, turns and surprising plunges!
The grand vote on whether Pita should wear the prime minister's crown was held, and let's just say the response was more of a resounding "Nice try, buddy!"
Pita managed to bag a not-so-shabby 324 votes, but with 181 in opposition and 198 perfecting their mime skills by abstaining, the vote was called off early. The Speaker realized that even with a fairy godmother’s help, there was no magic that could help Pita cross the finish line.
And why such cold shoulders, you ask? It was mostly due to the infamous lese-majeste law, Section 112 or S112. It's the law that tells you to watch your mouth when you talk about the monarchy.
We had a nail-biting moment when a Bhumjaithai (BJT) member leaned in and told Pita, that he could have BJT’s votes if he dropped S112. With BJT holding the keys to Pita’s PM kingdom, this was probably the first hint that the day was unfolding more like a Greek tragedy for our protagonist.
Stay glued because on July 19, we're going in for another round of this democratic roulette.
Of course, Pita and his MFP buddies are puffing their chests for the camera, boasting they'll fight till the end. But whispers are already circulating that the 50 votes they need might need divine intervention.
Chatter's rife on whether Pita will stick around for the next vote, or if he's considering taking a step back and letting Pheu Thai have a go. Could we have a plot twist on the horizon?
Predictably, the social media furnace continue to blaze. Some of his loyalists are already plotting boycotts against the businesses of anti-Pita senators, while others are turning into amateur detectives, unearthing the steamy extramarital affairs of the decision-makers.
All aboard for next week - it's shaping up to be another rip-roaring rollercoaster of Thai politics!
Cheers,
